Ingredients

  • For the Boil
  • 4 eggs
  • water, for boiling
  • ice, for ice bath
  • For the Sauce
  • ½ stick butter
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp old bay seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper, optional
  • ¼ tsp brown sugar, optional
  • 1 tsp parsley

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs. Add the eggs to boiling water and cook for 8 minutes for a soft boil. Once done, remove them from the water and immediately add to an ice bath.
  2. Prepare the sauce base. While the eggs are in the ice bath, melt a half stick of butter in a pan. Add the sliced onion and let them cook for a couple of minutes until softened.
  3. Build the sauce. Add a heaping tablespoon of garlic and a tablespoon of lemon juice to the pan. Pour in a half cup of chicken broth and let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
  4. Peel the eggs. Peel the eggs while they are in the ice bath. Putting them in an ice bath makes peeling a lot easier.
  5. Season the sauce. Pour in all the dry seasonings: a half teaspoon each of garlic powder, onion powder, cajun seasoning, old bay seasoning, paprika, and chili powder. Add a quarter teaspoon of crushed red pepper and brown sugar, which are optional, and a full teaspoon of parsley.
  6. Combine and serve. Mix the sauce well, then pour it over the peeled eggs. Serve immediately.

Nay’s Tips:

  • Putting eggs in an ice bath makes peeling a lot easier.
  • Crushed red pepper and brown sugar are optional additions to the sauce.
  • Seafood and ramen noodles pair well with this dish.

What should I serve with these spicy buttered eggs?

This dish pairs really well with seafood or a bowl of ramen noodles.
